Not medical advice

Everything on Yoga Management, including articles, pose and breathing instructions, routines, calculators and downloads, is for general education and information only. Nothing on this website is medical advice, a diagnosis or a treatment, and it is not a substitute for care from a qualified doctor or health professional.

Using this website does not create a doctor-patient, therapist-client or teacher-student relationship between you and Yoga Management, Evavel Private Limited or anyone who writes for us.

When to speak to a doctor first

Please check with your doctor before starting yoga, breathing exercises or meditation from this website if any of these apply to you:

  • you are pregnant or have recently given birth
  • you have high or low blood pressure, heart disease or a history of stroke
  • you have diabetes, especially if you take insulin or tablets that can cause low sugar
  • you have glaucoma, diabetic eye disease or a detached retina
  • you have had surgery recently, or have a hernia
  • you have an injury, or ongoing back, neck, knee or joint pain
  • you have epilepsy, asthma or any other long-term condition
  • you have a mental health condition and are using yoga or meditation as part of your care

Tell your yoga teacher about any condition before your first class too, so they can suggest safer versions of poses.

Practise within your limits

Yoga is generally safe for healthy people, but any physical activity carries some risk. Stop straight away if you feel sharp pain, chest pain, dizziness, numbness, unusual breathlessness or a headache, and seek medical help if it does not settle. Never force a pose or a breathing practice. Our yoga safety tips explain how to practise sensibly.

Never stop treatment because of yoga

Some of our guides describe research on yoga for conditions such as back pain, stress, diabetes or blood pressure. Where studies show a benefit, it is usually modest and in addition to normal treatment. Do not stop, reduce or change any medicine, and do not delay seeing a doctor, because of something you read on this website.

How we use research

When we describe health effects, we try to link the research we used and to say how strong it is. Science changes, studies have limits, and results in a trial may not apply to you. Treat our summaries as a starting point for a conversation with your doctor, not a final answer.

Listed teachers, therapists and centers

Our directory lists independent yoga teachers, therapists, schools and wellness centers. Some describe therapy-focused programs, for example for back pain, PCOS, fertility, pregnancy, diabetes or stress. Those descriptions come from the businesses themselves. We do not assess any listed business's medical claims, clinical training or results, and a listing is not a recommendation for any health condition. Be cautious of anyone who promises to cure a disease.

Medical emergencies

If you think you are having a medical emergency, call 112, or 108 for an ambulance in India, or go to the nearest hospital straight away. Do not rely on this website or wait for a reply from us.

Responsibility and liability

You are responsible for how you use the information on this website. To the extent allowed by law, Yoga Management and Evavel Private Limited are not liable for any injury, loss or harm arising from the use of our content or from any class, course or treatment provided by a listed business. See our terms and conditions for the full terms.
